Classes, Diagnostics, and Targeted Reading Clinics

Think-Top Tutors offers structured Reading Programmes for primary-level students who need support with decoding, fluency, comprehension, and confidence with text.

Our reading support is delivered through three clearly defined pathways:
Reading Classes, Reading Diagnostic Assessments, and Reading Clinics.

Each pathway serves a different purpose and is selected based on the student’s needs.

Who are the Reading Programmes for?

Reading Programmes at Think-Top Tutors are designed for:

  • Primary-level students, particularly Standards 3–5

  • Students preparing for SEA who show reading or comprehension gaps

  • Students who struggle with decoding, fluency, or understanding text

  • Students who read but lack confidence, accuracy, or stamina

  • Parents seeking clear answers and structured intervention, not guesswork

Placement is based on skill level, not age alone.

What reading challenges do you address?

Our Reading Programmes target:

  • Weak decoding and phonics gaps

  • Slow or inaccurate reading

  • Poor reading fluency

  • Limited vocabulary development

  • Weak comprehension skills

  • Reading anxiety and avoidance

Support is structured, explicit, and developmentally appropriate.

Conditions for Placement and Delivery

Placement and delivery decisions are conditional on diagnostic results, observed skill gaps, student readiness, and programme goals discussed with parents. Not all students require clinics, and not all reading needs are addressed through ongoing classes.

Reading Classes

What are Reading Classes?

Reading Classes provide ongoing literacy support for students who need consistent, guided instruction over time.

These classes focus on:

  • Phonics and decoding strategies

  • Reading fluency and accuracy

  • Vocabulary development

  • Comprehension strategies

  • Building confidence and independence as readers

Reading Classes are suitable for students who need regular reinforcement rather than short-term intervention.

How are Reading Classes delivered?

Reading Classes are typically delivered:

  • In small groups

  • In online or in-person sessions, where close observation is required

  • With structured lesson plans and ongoing assessment

Delivery mode and schedule are discussed during consultation or registration.

Reading Diagnostic Assessments

What is the Reading Diagnostic?

The Reading Diagnostic Assessment is a structured evaluation of a student’s reading skills. It is used to identify specific gaps and determine the most appropriate support pathway.

The diagnostic examines areas such as:

  • Word recognition and decoding

  • Phonics and spelling patterns

  • Vocabulary in context

  • Reading fluency

  • Reading comprehension

  • Listening comprehension (where appropriate)

Why is a diagnostic important?

A diagnostic assessment allows us to:

  • Identify the root cause of reading difficulties

  • Avoid generic or inappropriate placement

  • Design targeted instruction or intervention

  • Give parents a clear picture of what is happening and why

Diagnostics are particularly important before placement in a Reading Clinic.

Reading Clinics

What is the Reading Clinic?

The Reading Clinic is a short-term, intensive intervention programme designed for students with specific and significant reading gaps.

It begins with a Reading Diagnostic Assessment and focuses on:

  • Targeting clearly identified weaknesses

  • Delivering focused, time-bound instruction

  • Monitoring progress closely

  • Adjusting strategies as needed

Reading Clinics are not long-term classes. They are purposeful interventions with defined goals.

Who is the Reading Clinic for?

The Reading Clinic is suitable for students who:

  • Show clear reading breakdowns

  • Are at risk of falling behind academically

  • Need immediate, focused support

  • Have not responded well to general classroom instruction

How are students placed into Reading Classes or Clinics?

Placement is determined using:

  • Reading Diagnostic Assessment results

  • Observed skill gaps

  • Student age and academic level

  • Programme goals discussed with parents

This ensures each student receives appropriate and effective support, rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.

Online and In-Person Delivery

Reading support at Think-Top Tutors is primarily delivered in person, particularly for diagnostics and clinics, where close observation and immediate feedback are essential.

Some components may be supported through online tools, but delivery mode is selected based on what best serves the student’s learning needs.

Not all Reading Programmes are offered in both formats.

What outcomes can parents expect?

While progress varies by student, Reading Programmes aim to:

  • Improve decoding accuracy and fluency

  • Strengthen comprehension skills

  • Increase confidence when reading

  • Reduce frustration and avoidance

  • Support broader academic performance

Progress is monitored continuously and discussed with parents when adjustments are needed.

How does this support SEA preparation?

Strong reading skills are foundational for all SEA subjects.

Improved reading supports:

  • Better comprehension of exam questions

  • Stronger written responses

  • Increased confidence across subjects

  • Reduced exam anxiety

Reading support is therefore an essential part of early SEA preparation.

Important note for parents

Reading support is not generic tutoring.
Placement, delivery mode, and programme selection are based on assessment and professional judgement to ensure the best possible outcome for each student.

Reading Programmes do not replace classroom instruction, are not drop-in services, and are not designed for secondary-level literacy support.

Next steps

Parents interested in Reading Classes, Diagnostics, or the Reading Clinic are encouraged to:

  • Complete the registration form

  • Request a consultation

  • Discuss their child’s reading needs and goals

This allows for accurate placement and clear expectations from the start.
